Ananda raises €50m for third fund
Munich-based venture capital firm Ananda Impact Ventures has raised €50m in fresh capital for its third fund, Ananda Impact Fund III.
The fund held a first close on €35m in March with a target of €40m, subsequently reaching its hard-cap of €50m.
To date the fund has deployed capital into five investments, in technology-based startups with a social impact.
Ananda Ventures raised €22.3m for its predecessor fund, Social Venture Fund II, in 2014. The venture capital firm is led by managing partner Johannes Weber, who founded Ananda in 2009.
Investors
Investors in the fund include entrepreneurs and family offices, along with institutional investors such as the European Investment Fund. In addition, the UK impact investor Big Society Capital (BSC) – set up to build the social investment market in the UK – became an Ananda fund investor for the first time.
Investments
The investment team seeks to deploy capital into European companies that address social issues such as health, education, sustainable consumption and ageing population. The fund aims to create social value with its investments.
The new fund will invest in around 20 European impact enterprises in Ananda's chosen sectors. The first five investments are lined up with Careship, Talea, HomeTouch, MobileJob and Raremark.
