Ambienta buys Mikrotron
Italian private equity firm Ambienta has acquired Mikrotron, a German developer of high-speed machine vision cameras.
The acquisition is part of a consolidation project. Together with Tattile, a machine vision and automation firm acquired by the GP in 2012, Mikrotron will form LakeSight Technologies. Ambienta hopes to build a European leader in the machine vision sector by aquiring additional companies.
LakeSight Technologies aims to be a platform comprising smaller synergic players that can share sales channels, management resources and investment programmes. Ambienta's goals for the platform are sales in the €40-50m range and global reach.
Mikrotron has €9m in revenues and a double-digit EBITDA margin. Since Ambienta's investment, Tattile's profitability has increased to reach a 20% EBITDA margin, with revenues at €17m in 2015, according to the GP.
Cariparma Credit Agricole and Banco Popolare arranged financing for the transaction.
Company
Founded in 1979 and based in Eching, Mikrotron develops machine vision systems such as high-speed cameras and recording systems for application in a variety of different industries. The products are typically used in quality inspection and automation solutions for industrial processes. The company claims that its technology helps reduce unnecessary processing, thus improving energy and materials efficiency.
