Outstanding results for growth LBOs
AFIC and PricewaterhouseCooper’s latest half-yearly study for 2005 has indicated ‘exceptional results’ for the French private equity market. According to their report, funds raised over the first six months of 2005 reached EUR 7.8bn, equivalent to 9x the sum over the same period of 2004. In a similar way, in the first half of 2005 a record level of investments took place in unquoted companies. French private equity investments increased by 87% to reach EUR 3.4bn. Some 617 businesses received such funding, compared to 547 companies over the same timescale last year. The study maintains that over this same comparative period, French buyouts have registered a 119% increase in value and a 59% increase in volume, and growth capital investments have grown by 75% in value and 22% in volume. The early-stage segment lags behind with a decline of 5% in value compared to last year, while the volume has remained exactly the same.
