French private equity investment up 16%
According to statistics published by the French private equity association AFIC, the value of private equity capital invested in France has risen by 16% in the first half of 2003 compared with the same period last year. The value of investments made in the first six months of 2003 reached EUR 1.7bn, showing a 16% increase, compared to a fall of 8% in Europe over the same timeframe. In the first half of 2003, 92% of investments by volume and 50% by value were made in small- to medium-sized business employing under 500 staff. In total, 91% of all investments were made in companies with sales of under EUR 100m. The figures also show that a third of all European deals took place in France, consolidating the countryÂ’s position as market leader in Continental Europe.
