France Télécom and Vivendi Universal in talks with two bidding parties

According to reports in the French press, there are just two bidders remaining in the efforts to acquire what will be France’s second largest cable operator behind Suez’s Noos subsidiary. As part of the eventual deal, France Télécom Câble is being merged with Vivendi Universal’s Numéricâble and a majority interest in the merged entity will then be sold to an external party.

A syndicate comprising Cinven and the Luxembourg cable operator Altice are said to be up against US-based Providence Equity Partners to acquire the new entity valued at EUR 500-700m, suggesting that Apax Partners and Soros Private equity are no longer bidding.
