AFIC – performance of French market down in 2001
The French venture capital association, AFIC, has published provisional figures for the French venture market in 2001, painting a picture of a difficult year. The amount of capital raised for investment fell by 17% EUR 5.06bn, while the amount invested fell by 50% to EUR 2.69bn, EUR 1.4bn of which is accounted for by buyouts. However, the amount raised through exits rose by 50%, reaching EUR 1.53bn in 2001. It also reported on IRRs generated in 2000, stating that yearly IRRs for early-stage investment have fallen on average by 15%, while the fall for development capital was 9%. The picture is different over ten years, however, with early-stage investment producing an average IRR of 43% and development capital producing 34%.
