France Telecom and Esmertec will co-develop and market Java software solutions for home multimedia terminals France Telecom, one of the world's leading telecommunications operators and Esmertec, a leading provider of software solutions for mobile phones and embedded devices, have signed an agreement to co-develop embedded Java™ software solutions providing open and consistent multimedia services for connected home terminals. As domestic broadband reaches the mass-market, it is expected that a growing number of connected devices will be required to provide a variety of communication and multimedia services in the home environment such as video communication, multimedia messaging as well as entertainment and ‘infotainment’. Domestic equipment will increasingly leverage open software platforms to deliver rich multimedia experiences to consumers. Esmertec’s Jbed™ CLDC and CDC solutions will be used by France Telecom to power these devices with its high performance Java runtime capabilities. Esmertec is a leading provider of software solutions and technologies for mobile phones, PDAs and embedded devices in telecommunication, home multimedia, machine-to-machine, consumer electronics and industrial automation markets.
