Â'Investissement et ValeursÂ' initiative launched
AFIC (Association française des investisseurs en capital) and Ernst & Young Transaction Advisory Services have launched 'Investissement & Valeurs'. Dominique Oger, chairman of AFIC and Pascal Raidron, partner at Ernst & Young and head of transaction advisory services, inaugurated the concept on 13 December 2004 at the Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris. 'Investissement & Valeurs' is seeking to build on the collaboration between the entrepreneur and the investor, whilst highlighting its advantages on the French economy. The project is centred on the key role played by venture capitalism in the French economy. According to a recent study published by AFIC and Ernst & Young, this form of financing has contributed to the start-up, development and growth of 1,400 businesses a year in France. The entrepreneur is at the heart of this growth dynamic: portfolio companies employ more that one million members of staff and their turnover represents 8% of the French gross national product. Three main development areas have been set out, the first being the creation of a committee to debate entrepreneurial values. The first meeting took place on 13th December, presided by the economist Daniel Cohen and under the patronage of Loïck Peyron. The group is aimed at promoting relations between entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, as well as distinguishing the partners who most contributed to promoting entrepreneurial values. Secondly, a qualitative study will be carried out by AFIC and Ernst & Young on creating value in venture capitalism. During 2005, experts at Ernst & Young will be leading qualitative interviews with entrepreneurial and investing partners. The committee will then analyse the results and the study will be presented in autumn 2005.Finally, an annual award will be nominated to the best entrepreneurial or investing partners. In conjunction with the study, the committee will form a jury to reward the partners who have best demonstrated their active participation in the promotion of entrepreneurial values within the different segments of private equity.
