AFIC presents statistics on venture capital and private equity activity in France in 2003
AFIC has announced its statistics on the French venture capital and private equity market in 2003. According to the French association, the landscape amounted to EUR 4bn in 2003, down EUR 3.5bn from the EUR 7.5bn recorded in 2002. Analysis on the market has revealed that the decrease in the total market value can largely be attributed to buyout transactions, the segment that witnessed the largest drop in value due to the shortage of mega-deals after 2002. AFIC states that buyout deals contributed to 58% of the total market volume in 2003 (295 investments), down from the 77% recorded in 2002. According to the association, 85% of investments from French funds are made in France specifically, principally in the Parisian region.
