EVPAÂ's first annual conference rais
On 15 June 2005, EVPA held its first annual conference, attracting over 150 attendees from 13 European countries and the US. The event occurred less than 9 months after the group obtained its charity registration. Attendees included members of the private equity community, foundations, banks, professional service groups and the non-profit sector. The event, sponsored by JP Morgan and opened by 3i chairman Baroness Sarah Hogg, featured two keynote speakers: Luc Tayart de Borms, CEO of the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium, and Sir Peter Lampl, founder of the Sutton Trust in the UK. Attendees also participated in a variety of panel discussions, which included measuring the performance of venture philanthropy investments and case studies of EVPA members and their investors.Conference chairman Serge Raicher, one of five founding trustees of EVPA and former secretary general of EVCA, remarks: 'The success of EVPA's first annual conference demonstrates the substantial interest in venture philanthropy throughout Europe.
