BNP Paribas launches venture fund
BNP Paribas Capital Partners has launched a new venture vehicle that will support startups focused on financial services and insurance.
A spokesperson for BNP Paribas confirmed that the fund will mostly provide financing for series-A and series-B rounds, and that around five companies will be invested in each year. The fund will acquire minority stakes.
Moreover, the fund will make indirect investments through venture capital funds targeting technologies (such as AI, data, blockchain, cybersecurity), geographies and topics matching the profile of BNP Paribas's businesses.
Over the last year, BNP Paribas backed the Serena Data Venture, Viola Fintech and Ventech China funds.
BNP Paribas Capital Partners is an arm of BNP Paribas that specialises in selection and multi-management in the alternative investments field.
As of 30 September 2017, BNP Paribas Capital Partners managed, advised and administered assets totalling €6.5bn. The division has advisory and discretionary mandates and manages funds-of-funds as well as feeder funds.
