Activa sells Materne - Mont Blanc to LBO France
LBO France has acquired French desserts maker Materne - Mont Blanc from Activa Capital, a deal reportedly valued at €190m.
In 2003, Activa Capital organised the corporate spin-off of Mont Blanc, a French milk desserts manufacturer, from Nestlé and at the same time acquired the Gloria brand as a bolt-on. In 2006, Activa took a majority stake in fruit desserts company Materne and organised the merger between Mont Blanc and Materne to create the Materne – Mont Blanc (MOM) group.
Under Activa ownership, MOM refocused on fruit purée products, notably introducing the successful Pom'Potes pouches. In parallel, the company developed new export markets, particularly in the US. This strategy coupled with the two build-up acquisitions resulted in Mont Blanc's turnover increasing from €40m in 2003 to €190m in 2010.
