
Goldman Sachs and Colony pull out of Conforama auction
Goldman Sachs and Colony Capital have withdrawn their bids for French furniture retailer Conforama, according to media reports.
The company, part of the luxury group PPR, is valued in the €1.5bn region. Bidders still circling Conforama reportedly include the Carlyle Group and South-African furniture producer Steinhoff International Holdings.
Conforama is a chain of discount furniture retailers headquartered in Marne La Vallée. The company has 239 stores worldwide, of which 212 are directly operated. With the bulk of its stores located in France, the group is also present in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Croatia.
Conforama posted a €2.9bn turnover and €125m EBITDA for 2009; it currently employs 11,805 staff.
