Isai recruits three
French VC ISAI has recruited Mounia Rkha, Thierry Vandewalle and Paul Strachman, bringing its investment team up to nine professionals.
Rkha, who will manage Isai's Seed Club investment programme, joins the firm from Schibsted Group. There, she was responsible for corporate venture fund Schibsted Growth. Rkha's career in the venture capital industry began at Ventech, for which she worked between 2008-2011. That year saw her relocate to Morocco, where she founded and managed e-commerce service Mydeal.
As Isai's new venture partner for Europe, Vandewalle will develop the portfolio of the firm's second fund alongside managing directors Jean-David Chamboredon and Christophe Raynaud. Having founded online agency WCube, Vandewalle has acted as business angel in funding rounds for companies including Drivy, Atelier Cologne, Videdressing and Ad4screen.
Also a venture partner, Strachman will focus instead on the US market – overseeing US-based portfolio companies and the firm's investment activity in the region from its New York offices. Prior to Isai, he was employed by PAI Partners, Bain & Company and then was recruited by US-based fitness chain Equinox as strategy director.
The wave of appointments takes place two months after Isai announced it had raised €55m at first close for its second venture fund, exclusively from previous backers. With a €70m hard-cap, the vehicle aims to make three to four post-seed investments each year in start-ups. Its maiden deal involved French freelance online platform Hopwork, the recipient of a €1.5m funding round alongside former Adecco CEO Jérôme Caille in May.
