Iris Capital opens North American and Asian offices
French venture capital firm Iris Capital has opened further offices in the US, Canada, China and Japan.
The firm stated the move was made in response to greater demand for international scope from entrepreneurs. While Iris will remain focused on Europe, the new offices will allow it to support is European portfolio companies in their international expansion. The firm will also target opportunistic investment opportunities in these new geographies, particularly focusing on businesses aiming to develop in Europe.
Iris recently teamed up with French corporates Orange and Publicis to set up a €300m corporate venture initiative dubbed OP Ventures.
Orange and Publicis acquired a 24.5% interest in Paris-based Iris, which was established in 1986. The €150m contributed by France Télécom and Publicis were added to pre-existing commitments in Iris – notably including funding from European Investment Fund and CDC Entreprises – resulting in an overall investment capacity in excess of €300m.
Earlier this week, Iris led a €2m funding round for French online content publication platform YouScribe.
