PE-backed Camping and Co merges with Campsy
Backed by Otium Capital and Newfund Capital since 2010, online camping holiday booking platform Camping and Co has merged with German-Dutch company Campsy.
Launched in 2016, Campsy is backed by Berlin-based incubator Rocket Internet.
Newfund first backed Camping and Co in 2010 in a €500,000 seed round. Two years later, the company received a further injection of €1.5m, to which Otium also contributed.
Rocket Internet's Campsy will become the majority owner of Camping and Co, with the two VC backers making a partial exit but still staying on as minority shareholders.
The combined entity should offer its clients a listing of around 2,000 camping sites located around Europe. Campsy brings in German and Dutch sites while Camping and Co (also known as Holidays&Co) has stronger positions in France, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
The new company aims to generate a turnover of €20m for 2017. It will employ 50 full-time staff.
