Montefiore, M80 back Gandi.net
Montefiore Investment and M80 back have together acquired a majority stake in France-based Gandi.net, a domain name registrar, while founder Stéphan Ramoin has retained the remainder.
Ramoin explained in a statement that the company will now look to acquire other businesses for the first time thanks to the private equity backing.
The transaction sees US-based investor Stephens, which has backed Gandi.net since 2005, exit its investment.
M80, acquiring a smaller stake than Montefiore, invested via its maiden fund, which held a €100m first close in November.
The transaction's equity-debt ratio is around 70:30, with HSBC providing senior debt, Unquote understands.
Company
Founded in 1999 and based in Paris, Gandi.net allows its clients to purchase domain names and today manages around 2.5 million domain names.
The business has revenues of €37m and 800,000 customers, according to a statement. More than half of its sales come from France, though revenues from abroad have contributed substantially since the company created overseas subsidiaries in 2012.
