
Weinberg Capital buys supermarket chain Marcel & Fils
Private equity firm Weinberg Capital Partners has acquired a majority stake in French organic supermarket chain Marcel & Fils.
The GP is deploying equity from its third fund, and Marcel & Fils is its fourth investment from the vehicle. The fund held a final close in July 2018 on its hard-cap of €295m.
News portal Capital Finance reported that investors Azulis and Amundi – which had backed the company since 2015 and 2012, respectively – have exited the company, while Sofipaca, an investor since 2012, reinvested in the business.

Founded in 2008 in Venelles, Marcel & Fils is a chain of organic supermarkets in France. It operates 32 supermarkets and generates sales of €74m.
