EdRip, Sofinnova lead €18m round for Inotrem
Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners (EdRip) and Sofinnova Partners have co-led an €18m series-A round for French biotech Inotrem.
Swiss firm Biomed Invest and Inserm Transfert Initiative took part in the round alongside the lead backers.
The fresh capital will finance further development of Inotrem's product for the treatment of sepsis, developed from the company's Trem-1 platform, and will push the product into late-stage pre-clinical and early clinical trials.
The company will also explore the potential uses of Trem-1 in the treatment of other inflammatory diseases.
Company
Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Nancy, Inotrem is developing therapeutic treatments for sepsis via its Trem-1 platform, which is designed to act as an amplifier of the immune response cycle.
According to Inotrem, sepsis is the 10th leading cause of death in developed countries. It affects up to 1% of the global population per year and has a mortality rate of 50%. The company claims that there are currently no specific targeted therapies approved for the treatment of sepsis besides antibiotics and symptomatic agents.
Sepsis is an inflammatory syndrome that affects the whole body and is caused by severe infection. It is caused by the immune system's response to an infection and, if severe, can lead to multiple organ failure and death.
People
Jean-Jacques Garaud is the CEO of Inotrem. He founded the company alongside CSO Mark Derive and Sebastien Gibot, a professor of critical care medicine at the University of Lorraine Medical School.
Sofinnova partner Graziano Seghezzi and EdRip associate director Gilles Nobécourt are both taking up seats on the company's supervisory board following the funding round.
