CEA Investissement leads €2m round for Microphyt
CEA Investissement, Sofimac Partners and Soridec have taken part in a €2m funding round for Microphyt, a French biotech specialising in microalgae-based bioactive products.
CEA Investissement led the round via its Amorçage Technologique Investissement vehicle, while Sofimac backed the company via its Emergence Innovation 1 fund. Soridec invested via Jeremie LR, an €11m fund under the Joint European Resources for Micro to Medium Enterprises (Jeremie) initiative.
The fresh capital will allow Microphyt to finance the ongoing product development programme for its pipeline of bioactive molecules.
Company
Montpellier-headquartered Microphyt was founded in 2007. The company is developing a range of bioactive products from microalgae (microscopic algae).
Its cosmetics range includes anti-aging cream and natural moisturiser. Its "nutraceutical" offering includes anti-oxidant nutritional supplements Astapak and Betapak. The firm is also examining the potential for products in the healthcare space.
The company currently employs eight staff.
People
Arnaud Muller-Feuga is the founder and CSO of Microphyt, while Vincent Usache is the company's CEO. Celia Hart is an investment director at CEA and Cécile Thébault is the director of technology investments at Sofimac.
