Runa-backed Capptain sold to Microsoft
Microsoft has acquired Capptain, a French provider of user and push notification analytics software backed by Runa Capital.
The deal is estimated to be worth around $6m, according to Russian press.
The sale marks Runa's third exit. The fund had already sold UK-based ThinkGrid to Colt Technology Service in August 2012, achieving a 4.5x return on its original investment. Earlier this year, the GP sold US-based StopTheHacker to CloudFlare.
Runa led a $1.5m series-A funding round for Capptain in May 2012.
The company will be integrated into Microsoft's Azure service suite, with its existing services remaining available to new and existing customers while it is prepared.
Company
Founded in 2008, Capptain is headquartered in Paris with an additional office in Moscow. The company provides software that analyses user behaviour in real time for mobile app developers. It is designed to allow customers to then respond with targeted push notifications, offers or announcements.
People
Laurent Lathieyre is the CEO and co-founder of Capptain. Runa managing partner Dmitry Chikhachev sat on the company's board of directors prior to the sale.
