Nextstage in €15m round for Cap Cinema
Nextstage has taken part in a €15m funding round for French multiplex operator Cap Cinema.
Nextstage contributed €6.4m to the round via its FCPR Nextstage PME Championnes II fund and was joined by Matignon Investissement et Gestion, which invested via the MI3 vehicle. Cap Cinema's founding managers reinvested in the deal, retaining their majority stake in the business.
The transaction allowed BPI France, which had invested €4m in Cap Cinema in 2008, to fully exit the company.
The business is now planning to open five new multiplexes by 2018 and to strengthen its non-cinema leisure offering. Additionally, Cap Cinema will also consider opportunities for bolt-on acquisitions and international development.
Company
Established in 2003, Cap Cinema operates 13 movie theatres, including 10 multiplexes. The group focuses on smaller urban areas that are traditionally lacking the large multiplexes seen in larger city centres. Besides movies, Cap Cinema also hosts spectacles and concerts, and operates restaurants, as well as children-focused activities in its establishments.
People
Michaël Strauss-Kahn and Nicolas de Saint Etienne worked on the deal for Nextstage.
