Biofortis (France) - Dec 2007

Ouest Ventures has invested €650,000 in nutritional testing business Biofortis, in exchange for a stake of approximately 30%. The company is originated from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) of Nantes. Should the company’s growth be satisfactory, another round of funding could take place in two or three years.

Company

Founded in 2002, Biofortis provides clinical validation for health benefit claims of various nutritional products, including dieting and ‘health’ foods. The company also conducts outsourced nutritional R&D on behalf of corporate clients, which, in this increasingly regulated field, are relying on subcontracting. Biofortis expects to break even and to generate sales of €1m in 2007. The new cash will enable a strengthening of sales, particularly abroad, the recruitment of additional staff to increase output, and the financing of a new laboratory to be used to conceive new methodologies.
