Apax, BPI France acquire LIUF
Apax France and BPI France have teamed up to invest in French higher education institutions through the acquisition of Laureate International Universities France (LIUF) from the Laureate Education group.
The acquisition concerns all the institutions forming LIUF: École Supérieure du Commerce Extérieur (ESCE), Institut Français de Gestion (IFG), European Business School (EBS), École Centrale d'Électronique (ECE) and the Centre d'Études Politiques et de la Communication (CEPC). The five institutions are all Paris-based and count 7,509 students in total.
Apax was the leading investor in the transaction, with BPI France securing 10% of LIUF. The transaction has been agreed by Laureate Education and should be finalised in June 2016.
Apax appears keen to pursue its ambition to invest in educational institutions, having already invested in Groupe INSEEC in 2013. With this latest addition, the GP's education portfolio will now total 17 institutions with 20,000 students.
