Nordic private equity shines in Q2

The Nordic market is back in full swing, according to figures from the latest Nordic unquote" Private Equity Index, published in association with KPMG.
23 buyouts worth €5.3bn were recorded in the three months to June - the highest totals seen in a second quarter since 2006. In fact, volume in the first half of 2011 is at the highest level since the same period in 2008, while the overall value of deals has already or is close to topping the full year value totals of the previous three years.
On the flipside, early-stage and expansionary deal activity had a difficult second quarter. Only 23 transactions were recorded in Q2, down from 37 in the first three months of the year. Despite the drop, the first half of 2011 generated slightly more deals compared to the same period in 2010.
Industry professionals remain optimistic about market prospects, with a majority of private equity professionals expecting deal activity to increase in the coming six months. Notably, exits are expected to generate the bulk of Nordic private equity activity for the remainder of the year.
