
EITO: Swedish IT Investments 2001
The Swedish IT market increased in 2001 by E1bn, according to EITO, climbing to a total value of EUR 22.6bn. The IT market within Western Europe increased 5.1% to EUR 642bn, while the US market grew just 0.5%. Japan’s growth was 5.3%. Sales of mobile phones and other communications equipment increased 9.3% in Sweden, but declined 1.3% in Western Europe as a whole. Sales in the telecommunications sector were up 8.9% in Sweden compared with 6.4% in Western Europe.
Growth in other sectors, however, was slower in Sweden than the rest of Europe. Sales of IT services were up 4.6% in Sweden and 8% in Western Europe. Software sales were up 4% in Sweden and 8% in Western Europe. Operator services were up at the same rate in Sweden as the rest of Europe, at 9.5%.
EITO estimated growth of the Swedish IT market at 4.8% for 2002, compared with 5.4% for Western Europe. It is estimated that sales of mobile phones and communications equipment will continue to rise in Sweden during 2002, up 11.6%, while for Western Europe the figure is 3%. Operator services are also forecast to grow at a greater rate in 2002, up 7.9%, compared with 6.7% growth in Western Europe.
