Basel Accord may harm European private equity industry
According to EVCA, the private equity and venture capital industry in Europe could be seriously compromised if the Basel II Accord, the new capital adequacy programme, is passed. The trade body has issued a statement objecting to the accord, which will require banks to set aside capital based on an assessment of their exposure to operational risk. The statement argues that 'a significant reduction in funds allocated to the private equity industry by banks would occur, leading to serious turmoil in the industry'.
