
EVCA statistics show returning confidence to European private equity industry in 2003
According to figures published by EVCA, the European private equity and venture capital industry showed a return to confidence in the second half of 2003. Fundraising across Europe in 2003 was up to E27.7bn from E27.5m raised in 2002. Investment activity stood at E23.1bn in 2003, of which 67% went into buyouts. The survey also showed a 55.6% fall in write-offs on the previous year, although it concluded that IPOs remained closed as an exit route for the bulk of private equity and venture capital investors in 2003, with the main exit routes being trade sales and secondary buyouts.
