Fuelled by trust, the relationship between the limited partners and the private equity houses was compared to a marriage at the Nordic Limited Partners Private Equity Congress 2005. ‘The first month after the contract has been signed is the honeymoon period,’ commented Niklas Sloutski, senior partner at Accent Equity Partners. Discussing the impact of the LP/GP relationship, he suggested that it was a ‘type of romance’.Kathleen Bacon, managing director of HarbourVest Partners, agreed that there is a trust element in the relationship. ‘I want to see strong, decisive managers,’ she remarked. Bacon noted that she preferred to have someone calling her before an investment hit a rock and was reported in the media.The panel, which also included Stefan Näf, executive director of Partners Group, was chaired by Grant Roberts, general partner at Newgate Partners. The panellists also discussed how useful advisory boards were. ‘The smaller the funds, the more input we can provide,’ said Näf.The inaugural Nordic Limited Partners Private Equity Congress 2005 was organised by Incisive Media and hosted by Nordic unquoteâ€.
