Biotechnology - an expanding European industry
The European Biotech industry is now ranked as the largest biotech market outside of the US and it is steadily growing. The eighth annual Ernst & Young Life Sciences Report, published recently, demonstrated that there has been consistent year-on-year growth in the industry since 1998. According to the report, there are 1,570 European biotech companies employing over 61,100 staff, compared with 1,273 companies in the US employing 162,000 staff. This represents a 16% increase in numbers of firms operating within the European industry compared to last year.
