Danske Private Equity

It has been announced that Leif Helth Jensen has been appointed managing director of Danske Private Equity’s new life sciences fund, Danske Life Science. He will assume the post on 1 December 2001. Helth Jensen, who is 48 years old and holds a Master’s degree in Biology, comes from the position of president and CEO of Cureon A/S, a biotech company that develops antisense therapeutics products and secured a DKr 78m round of venture capital financing at the turn of the year. He was co-founder of Cureon in 1999 following a spin out from the Danish biotech company Exiqon, which itself secured a DKr 60m round of funding during 2000. Incidentally, Leif Helth Care A/S, Leif Helth Jensen’s privately owned investment company, was involved in the venture capital financing of both Exiqon and Cureon. In 1989, Helth Jensen co-founded NeuroSearch A/S, and from 1989 to 2000 he was director of Pharmacology. From 1982 to 1989, he was employed at Ferrosan A/S, the pharmaceutical company, first as a research scientist, then as head of Behavioural Pharmacology.

In another appointment, Helle Busck Fensvig, who is 36 years old and holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration, has been named partner in Danske Life Science. Busck Fensvig’s industry experience comes primarily from Danske Securities Corporate Finance, where she has participated in a number of transactions involving biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
