Danske Bank and SEB to merge?
The largest bank in Denmark, Danske Bank, is reported to be negotiating with SEB Bank regarding a takeover. This would result in a giant banking corporation that would be larger than Nordea, which is currently the largest bank in Denmark. The rumour originates from the Swedish business magazine Affärsvärlden, which has reported that several independent sources have confirmed that the two banks have had long discussions about a merger. Analysts are pointing out that in terms of business and technology the two banks are well suited to each other and have possibilities of getting approval for a merger from the competition authorities. In spite of the obvious advantages, according to market observers, Danske Bank is not confirming the fact that there are plans to take over SEB.
