PE leads performance table for Finnish state pension fund
Finnish state pension fund Valtion Eläkerahasto (VER) has generated a 13.4% return from its private equity funds for 2018, according to its latest annual report.
Private equity funds delivered the best returns compared with other investments over the same period, and the state pension fund of Finland said in its report that "healthy returns were due to successful exits at sound valuation levels and the continued positive financial performance of companies."
However, the performance was slightly down on the 16.1% return from private equity funds in 2017.
The entire portfolio of the €18.5bn pension fund returned -3.4% for 2018, hampered by negative performance of investments in listed equities (-7.4%) as equity markets performed weakly.
The pension fund's other equity investments include private equity funds, along with non-listed stock and listed real estate investment trusts (REIT).
Recent commitments to private equity include KRR III, BlueBay Senior Loan Fund, and Vaaka Partners Buyout Fund III.
