HealthCap makes raft of senior appointments
Life-sciences- and healthcare-focused venture capital firm HealthCap has announced a raft of senior appointments, including that of partner MУЅrten Steen to co-managing partner.
Steen will work alongside existing managing partner and HealthCap founder Björn Odlander. Steen joined the firm in 2010 and has worked on investments including Ultragenyx and Wilson Therapeutics.
Kristina Ekberg has joined HealthCap as partner and general counsel, effective as of September 2021. Prior to joining HealthCap, Ekberg was a partner in Swedish law firm Vinge's M&A practice.
Carl Kilander, who joined HealthCap in 2019, has been promoted to partner. He has worked on investments including SynOx Therapeutics and completed a PhD with the Karolinska Institutet prior to joining HealthCap.
Georg Vo Beiske has been promoted to venture partner, having joined HealthCap in 2019. In addition to his role, Beiske is CEO of HealthCap portfolio company Tribune Therapeutics.
Alex Valcu has been promoted from principal to partner. He joined the firm in 2004 and will continue to be responsible for its IT operations, taking on a new role in running the firm's general administrative practices.
Sweden-headquartered HealthCap held a first close for HealthCap VIII in September 2019 on EUR 190m, followed by a final close in summer 2020 on EUR 235m. The fund expects to make 12-15 investments, continuing the firm's healthcare and life sciences venture strategy and focusing on companies that are developing therapeutic interventions with the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes.
