Agreement increases Danish venture funding by up to DKK 10bn
An agreement between the Danish government and Danish pension schemes The Danish Insurance Association, ATP and LD may provide up to DKK 10bn additional venture funding.
Three new loan and guarantee schemes have been created by the state and will be managed by Vækstfonden. In addition to this, a fund-of-funds called Dansk Vækstkapital has been formed, which intends to invest in venture, buyout and mezzanine funds. The pension schemes will invest DKK 5bn directly and indirectly in Dansk Vækstkapital, with 20% of the raised capital earmarked for venture capital funds.
The initiative is a response to the fall in availability of venture funding following the financial crisis. A number of Danish venture capital firms, such as Inventure Capital, were forced to close in 2010.
