Sponsor Capital appoints Seppälä, Sandvall and Virolainen
Sponsor Capital has added three new partners to its team, hiring Jussi Seppälä and Thomas Sandvall, and promoting Matti Virolainen.
Seppälä and Sandvall join the Finnish GP from HLP Corporate Finance, where the pair were partners and co-founders. Virolainen has been promoted to partner from a previous position as investment manager. The trio will take up their new roles in December this year.
Sponsor's new appointments came alongside the announcement of its €200m fourth fund. Managing partner Kaj Hägglund said the new partners were partly brought on due to the added size of Sponsor Fund IV, but also to show investors that the GP is taking care of the future of both the fund and the firm by adding some young blood.
Seppälä has 15 years' experience in investment banking, having previously worked at Goldman Sachs in London. He holds an MSc in finance from Helsinki School of Economics.
Like his colleague, Sandvall also boasts 15 years of industry experience and previous employment at Goldman Sachs' London offices. Sandvall holds a PhD in finance from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration.
Virolainen joined Sponsor in 2013, having previously worked as an associate with Nordea Corporate Finance. He holds an MSc in finance, economics and accounting from Aalto University's School of Business.
