Q1 2008 sees massive drop in investment activity
In the current economic environment, the Nordic region has seen a massive drop in the value of transactions. In the first quarter of 2007, the value of Nordic buyouts totalled EUR8.1bn, compared with just EUR2.2bn in Q1 2008. However, the volume of deals remains fairly constant with 27 deals completed last year, compared with 24 in 2008.
The same trend can be seen in the rest of Europe. According to the unquote" Private Equity Barometer in association with Candover, the total value of private equity transactions in Europe fell for a third consecutive quarter to just EUR21bn, down 34% from EUR31bn in Q4 2007, and down 63% from the EUR56bn reported in Q1 2007. The 137 buyouts completed in the first quarter of 2008 has made it the lowest quarter since 2004, with 33% fewer buyouts than the 204 reported in Q4 2007. (Page 09)
