
HealthCap et al. in SEK 327m round for Bonesupport
HealthCap Private Equity, Industrifonden and other existing investors have participated in a SEK 327m funding round for Swedish bone-health biotechnology company Bonesupport, led by investment company Tellacq.
The round consisted of an equity investment and a debt component provided by Kreos Capital. Existing investors that participated in the round include Lundbeckfond Ventures and AP3.
Tellacq is led by former CEO of previously Nordic Capital-owned healthcare business Nycomed, Håkan Björklund, who will becomes chair of Bonesupport's board as part of the deal.
The fresh funding will be used to boost sales of Bonesupport's series of bone products in new and existing markets, generate additional clinical data, and build the company's product pipeline.
Previous funding
Bonesupport first raised institutional funding in May 2003, with a SEK 45m round from Norway's TeknoInvest, Sweden's InnovationsKapital, and Herkules Capital. The company raised a further four rounds between 2003 and 2016, totalling in excess of SEK 450m.
Bonesupport's most recent round was raised in 2015, when the company received $14m from a consortium of venture investors and family offices which included Ferd Capital, Innovationskapital, Teknoinvest, Vencorp Partners, HealthCap Private Equity, NBGI, Ferd Venture, Lundbeckfond Ventures, Industrifonden and a Swedish pension fund.

Based in Lund in the south of Sweden, Bonesupport is a developer and producer of injectable bone graft substitutes. Its main product is Cerament, an injectable synthetic bone substitute that can be used in the treatment of fragility and fractures caused by disease and trauma, including osteomyelitis. The company was founded in 1999 and has offices in the US and Germany.
