
Sponsor Capital acquires 70% stake in StaffPoint
Finnish mid-cap specialist Sponsor Capital has acquired a majority stake in Helsinki-headquartered staffing services supplier StaffPoint.
Following an agreement signed on 5 October, Sponsor Capital will become the new majority owner of the StaffPoint group. Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and management will continue as shareholders.
With the fresh capital, StaffPoint intends to bolster its competitive advantage in its existing markets and accelerate company growth.
Previous funding
In 2002, CapMan bought 75% of the business, formerly known as Extra Personnel Services, for €30m, while management retained 10% of the shares and the vendor, Pertti Kuismanen, took a 15% holding through his investment vehicle Pertti A Kuismanen Invest. Nordea supplied a senior debt package to support the buyout.
In May 2008, CapMan's funds Finnventure Fund V and Finnmezzanine Fund II B and D, as well as Finnmezzanine Fund III A, B and C, sold a combined stake of 66% to family investment company GW Sohlberg institutional investor Varma, as well as the company's management for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 2002, the company is headquartered in Helsinki and offers temporary employment and recruitment services in Finland. It also provides personnel training and management consulting services. It has a presence in 14 locations around Finland.
The firm posted a turnover of €130m in 2016.
