
Axcel acquires European Sperm Bank
Danish private equity firm Axcel has acquired a majority stake in Copenhagen-headquartered European Sperm Bank.
Peter Bower, founder and previous majority shareholder of the sperm bank, will retain a minority stake of one third. Annemette Arndal-Lauritzen will continue as CEO and the firm will continue to expand.
Currently the company is headquartered in Denmark, but has additional clinics in Germany and England, and it plans to expand into more European countries.
It is the seventh investment from Axcel's DKK 4.8bn fifth buyout fund, which invests in Danish and Swedish companies with revenues of DKK 250m-4bn.

European Sperm Bank was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Copenhagen. It has 80 employees spread across offices and clinics in Denmark (Copenhagen, Lyngby and Aarhus), England (London) and Germany (Hamburg).
The firm helped conceive more than 34,000 children to 25,000 families across 99 countries since it was founded. In 2018 alone it had customers from 70 different countries.
