VCs sell Bitbar to trade
A consortium of VCs has sold Finland-based Bitbar Technologies, a mobile app test automation specialist, to Francisco Partners' SmartBear Software, a software testing tools firm based in the US.
The addition of Bitbar will allow SmartBear to offer its clients web and mobile app testing services.
Finnvera was the first investor to fund Bitbar, providing a seed investment in early 2012. The seed funding was followed by a $3m round led by Creathor Ventures, with participation from DFJ Esprit, Qualcomm Ventures, Tekes and Finnvera.
Subsequently, Inventure led a funding round for the startup in 2015. The round also saw existing investors Qualcomm, DFJ Esprit, Creathor and Finnvera participate. Bitbar intended to use the capital to fund expansion into larger market sectors and improve its position in the US market.
Bitbar acquired Cucumber of Scotland in June this year.
