Axcel exits European Sperm Bank to Perwyn
Nordic private equity firm Axcel has sold Denmark-based European Sperm Bank to UK family office Perwyn, according to a company announcement.
The company provides donor sperm and related services to people in more than 90 countries globally.
Axcel acquired the company in April 2019 via Axcel V, saying in a statement that it has invested in ESB's operational backbone and has expanded its network of donor sites in Denmark and the Netherlands.
Buyer Perwyn is a family office, deploying evergreen capital for high-growth mid-market buyouts in the UK and Europe. It typically invests between GBP 20m-GBP 200m.
The GP said that it will help further expand the company's donor pool, geographic coverage, and range of fertility services.
The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2022.
The deal is the fourth exit for Axcel V, which closed in April 2018 at DKK 4.8bn. The GP has also sold Aidian to family office Nordstjernan, Steelseries to trade, and Isadora to a consortium of investors.
