Ratos-backed Arcus-Gruppen buys spirits brands portfolio
Ratos portfolio company Arcus-Gruppen has acquired Nordic spirit brands Aalborg, Brøndums, Gammel Dansk and Malteser from Pernod Ricard.
The deal, which includes a production plant in Denmark, was valued at €103m. The acquisition was financed predominantly through an internal loan in Arcus-Gruppen, but Ratos committed a maximum of €9m in equity.
Ratos CEO Susanna Campbell commented that Arcus-Gruppen has achieved strong growth in the wine segment in Sweden and Norway, and that the acquisition will allow for the company to expand its presence within the spirits segment.
Company
Arcus-Gruppen was established in 1996 to replace state-owned Vinmonopolet in the distribution of wine and spirits throughout Norway. Based in Gjelleråsen, near Oslo, the company employs 470 staff and generated an EBITA of NOK 126m from a NOK 1,789m turnover in 2011.
People
Senior investment manager Mikael Norlander and investment manager Daniel Repfennig worked on the deal for Ratos. Otto Drakenberg is CEO of Arcus-Gruppen.
