Inlandsinnovation invests SEK 5m in Ruta Ett
The Swedish government's venture capital fund, Inlandsinnovation, has invested SEK 5m in children's entertainment company Ruta Ett DVD.
The fresh capital will be used to fund Ruta Ett's international expansion, primarily focused on the US and UK. CEO Pelle Ferner said the funds will let his company market directly to the consumer through avenues such as Youtube and mobile apps.
Inlandsinnovation's investment is the second in the space of a week, and brings its total investment in September so far to SEK 9m, following the SEK 4m funding round in SmartPlanes. The government-owned VC manages a SEK 2bn fund, investing only in start-ups located in the north of Sweden.
Ruta Ett is also backed by Almi Invest and a group of private investors.
Company
Ruta Ett is based in Falun – a city historically associated with its copper mine – and produces a wide range of children's entertainment, including books, toys and games for both traditional and digital platforms.
Currently, the company's primary product is the TV show Heroes of City, which is broadcast in a number of countries worldwide.
The seven-employee business generates revenues of around SEK 6m a year.
