Sequoia leads $18.8m round for Truecaller
Sequoia Capital has led an $18.8m series-B financing round for Stockholm-based Truecaller, a mobile number verification directory.
Existing investor Open Ocean Capital, the firm's chairman and a high-net-worth investor are also understood to have participated in the round.
The firm has also announced a partnership with Yelp, which will allow it to integrate further information into its platform.
Previous funding
In September 2012, Open Ocean backed the firm, acquiring a minority stake for €1m. The VC committed capital from Open Ocean Fund III, according to unquote" data. The series-A round was designed to support the firm's expansion in key markets in North America, Asia and the Middle East.
Company
Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Stockholm, Truecaller is a crowdsourced phone directory available on mobile platforms and the web. Users are able to find businesses, financial institutions and friends via the search function. When a Truecaller user's number is requested, the user is notified and is able to approve or reject the request.
People
Sequoia's Shailesh Lakhani has joined the Truecaller board as part of the transaction.
