Consilium buys Calzaturificio Claudia, builds new shoes group
Consilium has acquired shoes manufacturer Calzaturificio Claudia from the founding Chelini family and has launched a new group, Gruppo Manifatture Italiane (GMI), aimed at becoming an aggregation platform for the Italian shoe production sector.
In addition to Calzaturificio Claudia, GMI is composed of two other shoe companies controlled by Consilium, River and Calzaturificio Energy, which were acquired by the GP in January 2018 via its €145m Consilium Private Equity III fund.
The combined group will produce around 1 million shoes per year, employ 1,000 staff and generate turnover of €80m in 2019. GMI will be led by newly appointed CEO Alberto Zunino.

Lucca-headquartered Calzaturificio Claudia manufactures sneakers and womens' shoes and markets its products under the brands Aldo Chelini, KIB and Gamma. The company has 140 staff in Italy and 500 across its two Tunisian production facilities and generated revenues of €35m in 2018.
