Sinergia Venture Fund holds €30m first close
Synergo Capital has held a €30m first close for its debut venture capital fund, Sinergia Venture Fund, which was launched with a €150m target.
The fund intends to provide its portfolio companies with both equity injections and operational support, with the aim of boosting their growth and international expansion.
The vehicle's strategy will be led by Synergo partners Simone Cremonini and Giacomo Picchetto.
Prior to joining Synergo, Cremonini and Picchetto worked in investment banking, hedge fund management and as executive managers in companies operating across the media, technology, digital and telecommunications industries.
"The venture capital market in Italy has not yet expressed its full potential due to the small number of professional investors with adequate capital, network and training resources," Picchetto said. "With our new fund, we plan to help bridge this gap and achieve successful made-in-Italy exits."
In addition to its venture capital division, Synergo is also managing a private equity fund, Sinergia III, which is dedicated to growth investments in Italian SMEs.
Investors
Sinergia Venture Fund plans to build an LP base composed of institutional and private investors.
The vehicle has also received commitments from Italian entrepreneurs and managers, including Urbano Cairo (RCS MediaGroup, Cairo Communication), Marco Casiraghi (ENGECO), Giuseppe Falco (BCG), Pasquale Forte (Eldor Corporation), Stefano Simontacchi (Bonelli Erede with Lombardi), and Salvatore Vicari (VVA, Bocconi University).
Investments
Sinergia Venture Fund is dedicated to investments in technology startups operating across the food and agriculture, digital media, e-commerce, fashion, alternative transport, smart retail and medical industries.
It plans to finance pre-series-A and series-A rounds to support the growth of businesses that are already generating revenues.
The fund intends to focus primarily on the TCP/IP application layer, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, robotics, blockchain, and virtual and augmented reality technologies.
During 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sinergia Venture Fund team reviewed around 100 potential investments and selected its first target, the firm announced in a statement. This first transaction is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
