
Espiga sells Unica to Hexpol for €48m
Spanish private equity firm Espiga Capital has sold rubber compounds manufacturer Unión de Industrias (Unica) to Stockholm-listed company Hexpol for €48m.
The acquisition price includes a combination of cash and existing bank facilities.
Following the deal, Unica's management team will stay on with the business and continue to lead the company.
Through the acquisition of Unica, Hexpol plans to strengthen its market position in the rubber compounds segment across Spain and the rest of Europe.
Employing 4,600 staff across 14 countries, Hexpol produces advanced polymer compounding for the automotive, transport, construction, energy, consumer and healthcare industries. The business generated revenues of around SEK 13bn in 2020.
The sale ends a five-year holding period for Espiga, which bought an 86% stake in Unica via its €140m Espiga Equity Fund. The company's management team, led by president Fernando Sevilla, retained the remaining minority stake in the business.

Established in 1958 and headquartered in Corella, Unica is a producer of rubber compounds for the automotive, construction and agriculture sectors.
The company offers a wide variety of polymers, produced using both natural and synthetic elastomers.
Employing 80 staff, Unica generated turnover of around €40m in 2020.
