Graham Hutton to reported to make return to buyout market
According to reports in the Financial Times last week, Graham Hutton, former head of Morgan Grenfell Private Equity, has returned to the European leveraged buyout market, launching an investment boutique – to be named Hutton Collins – with former colleague Matthew Collins. It is believed that they intend to launch a EUR 500m mezzanine and speciality finance fund for investment in European leveraged buyouts. Hutton left MGPE in the summer of 2001 following a failed management buyout attempt from Deutsche Asset Management; MGPE was subsequently integrated into the broad business of DB Capital Partners (19 November 2001, page 6). MGPE suffered following the sale of its interest in SLEC Holdings (the holding company for the Formula One motor sport racing franchise) to EM.TV in exchange for EM.TV stock (27 March 2000, page 25), which later dropped in value dramatically. Collins, who is a high-profile leveraged finance specialist, reportedly left his position as global co-head of leveraged finance at Merrill Lynch for the new venture.
