Importance of the 'patent environme

Munich-based patent attorney Dr Stefan Rolf Huebner has published a paper entitled 'Patent Due Diligence in Emerging Technology Businesses'. The paper explores the position that technology start-ups often require access to a competitor's proprietary technology before a product can be brought to market and that a successful company will have a strategy in place to achieve this. Huebener recommends aggressive patenting early to avoid being blocked by a competitor's 'patent portfolio' and in order to achieve a strong bargaining position for cross-licensing.
